The "Many of One" Collection
These are the latest jazz pieces I have composed. "Many of One" refers to the fact that the computer plays all parts for me. Nothing in these pieces is improvised in this virtual jazz combo. My intention was to create music that sounds like it is improvised (all except "Friday Jam 2") so that musicians who read music can enjoy playing jazz. I have been using a notation program called "Notion" from PreSonus that has the most impressive sound production capability of anything on the market. Finally, I can express what is really going on in my head! Friday Jam 2 - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Horns, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Galatea - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Pitney Lane - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) It's Just There - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, Guitar, Strings, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) A Spanish Thing - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Guitar, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) N.Y. - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, Strings, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Christina's Smile - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Into Blue - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Fall Song - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) What's That? - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion (on "Summer" Album) Erika - Piano Solo Olivia - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Percussion Needing Space - Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Piano, and Bass |

The "Frankfurt" Collection
I went to Frankfurt, West Germany in 1981 for about 10 months to work as the Manager of Technical Publications for a German firm called Dolch, named after Volker Dolch (now Dolch Instruments). Of course, I brought as much of my studio as I could. The winter was bitter cold, I knew very few people, I was lonely, and I experienced cabin fever for the first time in my life. I was very happy to have brought my cello and studio along. While there I acquired a few more synthesizers/keyboards to add to the mix. The "Frankfurt Collection" is music I recorded during the time I was in Germany. Over the years, I must say this music fell out of my favor... I am not a keyboardist or guitarist, and sometimes things didn't quite work out the way I wanted. These were the days before computers could play what you notated. So everything had to be "performed" in real time. Whatever editing that could be done by using the fader pots on the TEAC-144 multi-track cassette recorder (which was pretty noisey by today's standards). Yet, I soldiered on, happy to be able to capture the improvisations I was doing at the time.
Lately, I've changed my mind about these old pieces. There is a certain "honesty" about them. they are mostly improvised and all tell the story of my time in Germany as a kind of musical journal. I offer them to the world, with all their warts and imperfections as a memorial to a formative year in my life.

I understand old analog synthesizers are now back in style. What you will hear in this collection is the real deal... I used a Casio PT-30, Roland TR-606 Drumatix, Roland RE-201 Space Echo, Casio PT-30, Casio VL-Tone VL-1, cello, guitar, and a TEAC-144.
